April showers bring...
04 April, 2008It’s been a whirlwind of a month here at the Jacky Winter super-secret underground treehouse compound, both figuratively and literally. While we have been enduring a severe weather beating, our nest remains unflappable. Let us count the ways…
• The first Jacky Winter artist dinner (AKA, The Parmageddon) was held to a great success. As Lachlan Conn Put “Can we make it a rule that Jacky Winter get-togethers should always involve eating bits of our feathered friends? We should do duck next.” Sorry Lachlan, but plans are already underway for the Great Jacky Winter Steak-Out.
• Our nest has expanded yet again, with the brilliant Jon Paton joining the agency, bringing his exquisite woodcut stylings. You can view his folio here
Please note that PDF tearsheets are currently only viewable in OSX preview, and will not open in acrobat for some strange reason. The 100-strong crew at the sparrows are working on a fix and we will let you know when it is ready. Custom PDF folios can also be sent on request.
• The amazing Justin Lee Williams has done us all proud again, and won the Triple J Great Wall Contest Check out the site to see Justin live in action along with personal hero Anthony Lister as they paint an enormous mural for the Triple J ABC offices.
• In other Justin Lee Williams news, our good friends over at Alter have launched a new zine called Flog which is totally sexy, and has a wonderful interview with our friend Justin. Check it out here
• For those of you in Sydney for Semi-Permanent this weekend, don’t forget to check out the Kids Today exhibition, featuring Eamo, Biddy Maroney, and a whole other slew of incredible talent.
• For those of you on the other side of the hemisphere, Pandarosa are having their inaugural European show in Hamburg, at the Helium Cowboy Artspace. The show is up until April 11.
• Dazed and Confused Australia’s last issue is currently on the shelves sporting a nice and long feature on the agency with a spotlight on six of our fine feathered friends. Check it out!
• Vote 1 (5 actually) for Tim Molloy on Threadless
• Have you checked the Shop lately? Original work by Tim Molloy and new prints by Kate Banazi recently added.
In real life news, folios and commissions have been updated. Including Beck Wheeler for Don’t Panic, Niels Oeltjen for Swinburne/DT Digital, Justin Lee Williams for Skins Wetsuits, and more. Watch this space for a slew of commission updates in the next fortnight.
Preparation is also underway for the 2008 field guide which will hopefully be alot lighter than the 2007 version, as we will be stuffing our suitcases full of them to pass out of the ICON5 Illustration Conference in New York this July. See you there!
Thats about all for now. Watch this space or subscribe to the RSS feed or Peter-Peter newsletter for updates.

07 March, 2008Oh my gods! Thanks to the magnificent efforts of the 50-strong crack team at Barking Sparrows , we’ve undergone a bit of a nip/tuck here at The Jacky Winter Group, with more new features than you can shake a stick at! Let us count the ways…
Firstly, we are proud to announce Beck Wheeler and Clemens Habicht have joined us as the newest birds in our ever-expanding nest. Be sure to check out their folios inside to find out which which of the two prefers juice to cordial.
Secondly, The Jacky Winter Emporium is now open for business! Did you know that in a recent survey, it was found that purchasing original artwork and prints by Jacky Winter Artists will extend your life by twelve years? Its true! Don’t dilly-dally about, head over to the shop now and find out how!
Thirdly, the site has undergone a major restructure. While things may not look too different on the surface, our back-end is now smoother than that of a newborn baby, and even more functional.
Behold our special galleries, containing recent commissions, an agency-wide sketchblog, as well as a brand spanking new motion and lettering section.
You can also browse works by category, although we are still going through and retagging all the images so this works better.
Fourthly, there are also dynamic pdfs available for download on each artists page. These pdfs are created on the fly and offer a handy collection of each artists folio as you see it online. Every time an artist updates their page, so will the pdf. You can also download individual pieces for coming directly from the enlarged view. Enlarged views are also dynamically scaled, so maximise those browser windows!
Fifthly, exhibitions abound! Don’t miss Beck Wheeler’s phenomenal solo show over at Über gallery in St Kilda. For those of you heading to Semi-permanent in Sydney, don’t miss your chance to see the work of Biddy Maroney and Eamo (among heaps other amazing names) at the Kids Today exhibition.
Sixthly, our news page is now a RSS feed. Subscribe now!
Thats all for now! Be sure to sign up for the Peter-Peter to receive infrequent updates on both the shop and other news!

Happenings
06 February, 2008Welcome Stranger! Don’t be shy. We’re not really that far away… Come on over… Some slight recent updates. New commissions have been added to the gallery, although there is a heap of totally awesome stuff that we cant put up yet. The shop is also still being developed and should be up shortly along with some other minor tweaks.
In other news, those of your in the Non-specific Northwest can catch a glimpse at some new Eamo goodness over at the Supertrash Film Festival.
Artists, comic artists, designers, illustrators where asked to re-imagine their favourite B-grade movie poster. Eamo chose the Aussie unknown classic kung-fu Ozploitation film The Man From Hong Kong. Starring Aussie’s one and only James Bond, George Lazenby, and the dude who was coined the Steve McQueen of Asian cinema in the 70s Jimmy Wang Yu!
For those closer to home, there is also a one page feature exposing the highly secret dietary regime of our own Oslo Davis in Dazed and Confused Australia.
In other local news, Andrea Innocent and Mel Stringer also feature on the latest issue of We Are the Image Makers. Those of you in Sydney should definitely hit up the related Grrrls exhibition featuring work by Andrea, Mel, and Lilly Piri.

2008
14 January, 2008Just popping our heads up for a collective breath of fresh air from the Jacky Winter carved mountainside secret summer compound. (now with dynamic directional toilet flushing correction, and lasers!). As we enter into the new year, we consider ourselves lucky that the rest of the world does not indulge in the elusive and never ending 16 and a half week Australian holiday season, as there is plenty of super-exciting work on the boil from all corners of the globe, and lots of fun surprises coming to the website in the coming weeks, not to mention a plan for the new field guide that will sure to leave a lasting impression… We even got one resolution out of the way, as the agency recently shed 100 kilos consisting of thousands of new bookplate promos. If you were lucky enough to catch one in your nest, and are here as a result, we warmly thank and welcome you, and encourage you as always to watch this space.
Love always, jw.

Homeward Bound
11 October, 200731 days and 120 books later, the inaugural Jacky Winter roadshow of wonderment and intrigue reaches is satisfying conclusion.
Following a fabulous almost-week in LA, we have packed our carriages tight with newly-purchased goodies, and performed an mass tribal offering to the gods of excess baggage, may they have mercy upon our wallets.
Unfortunately, the Sydney leg of the roadshow has been rescheduled in order to replenish our supply of Field Guides, and will take place in the coming weeks.
All in all it has been a fantastic voyage, with such encouraging feedback from all involved parties. Bear hugs and sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to meet with our deranged crew of bedraggled reps (consisting of me, alone).
Stay tuned for this space to witness the fruits of our labour, as we highlight upcoming commissions from across the globe and general folio updates. If you haven’t yet signed up for our mailing list, the Jacky Winter Peter-Peter, enter your email address at the bottom of the page to receive our first update which will include such thrilling topics as:
-New artists! -Sale of prints and original art! -Recent published work! -The key to true love!
See you then, homeslice. jw
